ANTI-DRUG OFFICIAL GETS JAIL

(Shawano, Wisconsin) -- A former Menominee County tribal officer who
taught children not to abuse drugs has been sentenced to 5 years in
prison for selling cocaine.

Kenneth Dodge, 36, of Keshena, sold cocaine on three occasions to an
undercover agent while he was a bartender at a Shawano tavern.

Dodge was "more serious than a normal drug deliverer because he taught
students the dangers of drugs as part of the national DARE program",
said Shawano-Menominee District Atty. Gary Robert Bruno.

"You've got a law-enforcement official . . . telling children they
should form a partnership with parents and police. He works with these
kids and . . . it's a devastating effect when they learn he's been
lying to them," Bruno said.

Circuit Court Judge Earl Schmidt also revoked Dodge's driver's license
for three years and ordered him to pay fines and court costs totaling
$302.

Dodge worked at the Menominee Tribal Police Department from February
1983 until he was fired in June 1997, according to William Beauprey,
the tribal police chief.
