SINGAPOREAN MAN ARRESTED IN MARIJUANA SMUGGLING
NARITA, Japan, June 30 (Kyodo) -- Police have arrested a Singaporean man at
Narita international airport on suspicion of attempting to smuggle into
Japan some 4.9 kilograms of marijuana, police said Wednesday.
Wan Cheemeng, 37, arrived at Narita, east of Tokyo, on June 14 from Bangkok
and was arrested after a sniffer dog detected the marijuana hidden in the
lid of his suitcase, police said.
Wan told investigators he attempted to smuggle the marijuana, which police
say has an estimated street value of 39.2 million yen, into Japan to make
money to pay off his debts, police said.
