POLICE SAY ITALIAN DIED IN CUSTODY AFTER SWALLOWING COCAINE-LACED HONEY

CARTAGENA, Colombia (AP) -- An Italian man arrested Wednesday for concealing
cocaine in jars of honey died after swallowing the mixture while police
interrogated him, officials said.

The 47-year-old man was arrested in this Caribbean port, 400 miles north of
Bogota, police said.

Police Col. Francisco Bermudez said Graziano, who was not handcuffed, was
being questioned when he suddenly grabbed a jar and gulped down a mouthful,
going into convulsions minutes later.

Bermudez said the suspect died while he was being rushed to the hospital. He
called the death a suicide.
