Re "A Law Unto Herself," Column One, Aug. 22

Kudos to lawyer Allison Margolin for her efforts to stop putting pot
smokers in jail and to uphold the medical marijuana proposition passed
by California voters. The excessive costs of incarcerating pot smokers
are unconscionable, to say nothing about the time the police waste
busting people who do no harm. Whatever, the police and the jails have
a job to do, as you know, with real felons.
