ON RETRACTABLE NEEDLES
THE retractable needles mentioned in the article on safe drug injection
(C-M, June 29) have many more applications than that. Companies are working
hard to bring down the price of such safety needles. Legislation has been
passed mandating their use in some parts of the United States, partly
because of the risks faced by health care workers. Considering the cost of
treating diseases acquired through accidental needle sticks, we can't afford
not to use safety needles. Soon, they will be the standard in blood work.
