DRUG CRIME, NOT GUNS THREATENS PUBLIC SAFETY

It amazes me that people can read an editorial such as The Sun's "Drug
addiction fuels murderous trend" (June 27) and still write anti-gun letters
and editorials.

That editorial said the city has 60,000 drug addicts, that an additional
60,000 live in surrounding counties, and that those addicts are responsible
for more than 75 percent of Baltimore's crime.

Just think, if drug crime was eliminated, 75 percent of the murder victims
might be alive; 75 percent of the muggings and break-ins might not have
occurred; 75 percent of police would be out of a job, 75 percent of the
prisons would be empty; and, better still, 75 percent of lawyers would be
looking for a job.

But what is the solution to the crime problem in the minds of the anti-gun
advocates? More gun control. Go figure.

It is obvious that they have a gun control agenda, not a safety agenda or a
crime control agenda.
