DRUG OFFENDERS BEING HELD
HEMPSTEAD -- A sweep by authorities in Waller and Austin counties landed 41
accused drug offenders behind bars by Friday as part of a stepped-up
enforcement effort west of Houston.
Waller County Sheriff Randy Smith said Westside Narcotics Task Force
officers Thursday served 65 warrants in the two counties, all for delivery
of a controlled substance.
The task force, formed last fall to combat drug traffic in areas traversed
by Interstate 10 and U.S. 290 west of Houston, is funded by local and state
sources. Participants include local police departments, two sheriff's
departments and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
