LET'S TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN PRISONERS

It is disgusting to me that we send our prisoners to other states for
incarceration. These are our people, fellow citizens of Wisconsin. We
should be taking care of our own. What is this, the Soviet Union? We ship
"undesirables" off to some hellhole like Siberia?

And what about the families of these prisoners? I think it is inhumane that
these prisoners are housed far away from their loved ones. Families should
be able to visit their loved ones on a regular basis. With prisoners kept
in other states, it is much more difficult for families to visit them, if
not impossible.

If we care about our fellow citizens of Wisconsin who have run afoul of the
law, we should be supervising their incarceration. If we care about what
kind of people they will be when they return to the general population of
our state, again, we should oversee their imprisonment.

Our state Legislature is fighting over a half-billion dollar surplus. Using
this money to build more prisons and hire more prison staff so we can take
care of our own prisoners would seem like a good use for that money.
