PROVINCE GETS FUNDS FOR DRUG PROGRAMS

Drug and alcohol addicted mothers hope new federal money for Ontario
will be used to deliver expanded rehabilitation services.

"We're delighted that there's new money coming to the province," said
Beverely Koven, co-manager of Breaking the Cycle, a treatment centre
for addicted mothers and their children.

Federal Health Minister Allan Rock announced last week that Ontario
will receive $8.6 million over two years for drug and alcohol programs.

"The cost of addiction, in terms of health care and lost productivity
in work, is in the billions," Rock said at the Toronto treatment centre.

Koven said she hopes a portion of the money is used to create a new
treatment centre that brings existing programs together under one roof.

Burton Hall, at 60 Grosvenor St., has been proposed as the site for
the new centre.
