POSITIVE ON DRUGS

I am surprised that Graeme McKay (Letters, July 29) has not heard any of my
constructive suggestions concerning positive drug policies, such as:

1) Replace the Kings Cross heroin "shooting gallery" with a rapid detox
Naltrexone clinic to get addicts off heroin, really save lives and reduce
crime by 80 per cent.

2) Reduce Naltrexone treatment costs by putting Naltrexone on the
Pharmaceutical Benefits List.

3) Introduce coercive residential rehabilitation centres for drug addicts in
co-operation with drug courts.

4) Give Health Department medical officers and selected trained police
officers the power to conduct random drug tests of suspected drug addicts
for rehabilitation programs.

5) Hard hitting TV commercials on health dangers of marijuana, heroin,
methadone etc as per "Quit Smoking Campaign".

6) Establish rapid detox Naltrexone clinics in "drug suburbs" such as
Cabramatta, Fairfield, Liverpool, Manly etc, as well as country regional
centres.
