MAN GETS 10 YEARS FOR DRUG RIPOFF

A man who helped a Pembroke Pines police officer rip off drug dealers has
been sentenced to 10 years in prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Miami
announced Thursday.

Jeanty Jacques was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Patricia A. Seitz.

Jacques was the co-defendant in the case against former police officer Gomez
Martin. Both pleaded guilty to conspiring to possess with the intent to
distribute more than 13 pounds of cocaine.

The cocaine was stolen when Martin pulled over a confidential informant in
June 1998.

Martin pretended to give the driver a ticket, investigators said.

Within minutes, Jacques showed up at the scene, ordering the driver to
follow him to Martin's house to split the drugs the informant had in his
car. FBI agents then arrested Jacques inside Martin's house.

In April, Martin was sentenced to seven years, three months in prison.
