RACIAL PROFILING INFO IS WEAK
To the editor:
The article titled ``The color of suspicion'' (Commentary, Aug. 1)
explained the NAACP's opposition to racial profiling in police work
even though a disproportionate amount of crime is committed by racial
minorities. On the same date, another article titled ``Lotteries offer
a lesson in losing'' pointed out that poor blacks play (and lose at )
the lottery more than any other group and four times more often than
whites.
Why don't the black churches and the NAACP focus on the state
lotteries instead of state police? Their statistical case against the
lotteries is very strong, but their statistical case against racial
profiling is very weak.
