BORDER CATS' DEMISE, DRUGS

In the Aug. 16 Chronicle I read that the Sierra Club is going to file
a lawsuit to have the lights along border crossings removed because
they bother the jagarundi and other cats that inhabit the area. These
are the lights that help the Border Patrol detect illegal border
crossings and, particularly, those crossings which involve the
transport of drugs.

We should ask ourselves if the survival of a few cats or even their
demise is worth removing a very useful tool in stopping the flow of
illegal drugs into this country? A few cats being able to roam and
breed comfortably or however many drug addicts being supplied with
their fixes? Which is more important? That's a slam-dunk if ever I saw
one.
