FACING LIFE

I have trouble with Jody Paterson's prediction that we shall never win the
Drug War ("Dosanjh's hard-line drug ideas won't work", Aug. 17). I am
particularly troubled with her statement that "people use drugs because
they make a bad day better."

What she is saying is that people no longer have the guts to face life as
it is handed to out to them. They can no longer, through their willpower
and through their internal resources of character and courage, beat the
challenges of life without a crutch.

Poor pathetic human beings! If this is what today's hedonistic doctrines
have brought us to there is no hope, none whatever, for the future of mankind.

I do not know where Jody spends her time. She may be surprised to learn
that there are still some individuals who look on life as a challenge to be
conquered through their own resources.

Perhaps she should drop in on a Christian assembly some time or perhaps
visit an Arche group. She would find people who rely on a much more
powerful and enduring support than the people she talks about with their
"fixes."

I am thankful that I no longer have children who might read this garbage
and take it for the truth.
