ANTI-DRUG CZAR SURVIVES AMBUSH BY GUNMEN
Gunmen on two motorcycles opened fire in Mexico City on a pickup carrying
Mexico's anti-drug czar Sunday but the official, Mariano Herran Salvatti,
was uninjured, officials and television said.
"He's fine. There was an attempt (on his life)," a spokeswoman at the
attorney general's office said.
The attack came in the wake of two incidents in June: the gangland-style
execution of television personality Fracisco Stanley and the killing of two
members of the president's bodyguard during a brazen ambush and payroll
robbery.
