CARL SAGAN WAS A CLOSET POT FAN

Get ready for billions and billions of jokes from late-night TV
comics.

It turns out that the late astronomer and author Carl Sagan was a
secret but avid marijuana smoker and credited pot with inspiring many
of his scientific insights.

Using the pseudonym "Mr. X," Sagan wrote about his pot smoking in an
essay published in the 1971 book "Reconsidering Marijuana." The book's
editor, Lester Grinspoon, recently disclosed the secret to the author
of Sagan's pending biography, Keay Davidson. Davidson revealed the
marijuana use in an article published today in the San Francisco Examiner.

In his essay, Sagan - author of popular science books such as
"Cosmos," "Contact," and "The Dragons of Eden" - said marijuana fueled
his intellectual work. He also wrote that pot enhanced his experience
of sex, music and food - particularly potatoes.
