Drugs - Re: "Killings spark fears for safety," Aug. 31.

I wonder what the outcome would be if Canada legalized drugs and used
the millions it spends on fighting this unwinnable war to providing
treatment and education.

If clean needles were provided and drugs could be obtained at
specific locations where treatment and education could also be
accessed, the opportunistic opening for criminal behaviour, including
the sale of drugs, violence and death from conflict over territory,
payment and crime, would be virtually eliminated.

The money spent on fighting this war could be redirected to
supporting people and helping them get healthy again. With no
financial benefit to being in Canada, those who operate here may
choose to leave. This seems like a no-brainer to me.
