CUSTOMS OFFICIALS ARREST MAN ALLEGEDLY IMPORTING HEROIN
U.S. Customs officials at Bush Intercontinental Airport arrested a Colombian
citizen who allegedly had heroin pellets stuffed in his stomach and inside
three pairs of shoes.
Eduardo Gonzales, 60, flew into the airport aboard a Continental Airlines
flight from Bogota, Colombia, on Wednesday, customs officials said.
"Customs inspectors decided to question Gonzales further after
inconsistencies and indicators aroused their suspicion," customs officials
said in a written statement.
Gonzales agreed to a medical X-ray, which read positive, the statement said.
Overnight, he expelled 97 pellets filled with heroin weighing nearly two
pounds, according to the statement.
A search of his travel bags turned up three pairs of shoes which contained
additional heroin, customs officials said.
Gonzales had an initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Court judge
Thursday and was informed that he is being charged with importation of
heroin and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
