WHITEFISH BAY AGREES TO START DRUG TESTING
Caving to pressure, the chief of a northeastern Ontario First Nation
community has agreed to mandatory drug testing for band employees.
Whitefish Bay Chief Warren White said recently that he decided to go ahead
with the plan after discussing it with 80 members of the community. A
consensus has arisen over testing for band workers.
This comes after the release of a Treaty 3 report that stated that
marijuana, ecstacy, crystal meth, cocaine and opiates were in use in the
community. The report also pointed to a link between high drug use on the
reserve and rising suicides.
