NSW OPPOSITION BACKS UN CONCERNS OVER INJECTING ROOMS
The New South Wales Opposition says the United Nations (UN) has rightly
identified concerns about the introduction of legal injecting rooms for
heroin users.
The State Government is intending to introduce legislation during this
session of Parliament, enabling a medically-supervised injecting room in
Kings Cross.
But the UN is reported to have warned that an injecting room could spark
increased drug trafficking and could breach Australia's obligations as a
signatory to an international drug convention.
Opposition leader Kerry Chikarovski says she needs to see the legislation
before commenting in detail, but she does not believe the concept is right.
