THREE STRIKES -- AND OUT
Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland has been sentenced to nearly a
year in jail for violating probation a third time in a heroin case.
Weiland, 31, has been jailed since Aug. 13 after admitting the violation.
In July, he was treated at a Southern California hospital for a heroin
overdose. A superior court judge said at sentencing Friday that Weiland is
"killing himself" and that he "has to be punished." Weiland's legal
troubles began in 1995, when he was arrested for possession of cocaine and
heroin. He will continue to be treated.
