'IN PAIN' CANNABIS MAN JAILED.

A 40-year old stroke victim who claimed he grew cannabis plants at his
Norfolk home to alleviate pain was yesterday jailed for two months.

Norwich Crown Court heard that when police searched Malcolm Jackson's home
they found 33 cannabis plants and some herbal cannabis.

Jackson, of Church Cottage, Little Witchingham, admitted producing cannabis
and possessing cannabis.

Jailing him, Judge Simon Barham said: "You purchased equipment to enable you
to grow cannabis plants at your home."

He added that Jackson had previous convictions for drugs and producing
controlled drugs.

Judge Barham said he accepted that the cannabis had been grown for Jackson's
own use to help alleviate pain, but: "It has to be emphasised that this sort
of offence will not be tolerated and certainly not from people who have
committed drug offences in the past."

Guy Ayers, defending, said Jackson began smoking cannabis in the Merchant
Navy.

He began again "to alleviate his pain" after losing both his parents and
suffering a stroke.
