BUSH SHOULD COME CLEAN ON DRUGGIE PAST
Letter to the Editor
While I believe that the possibility of indiscretions in George W.
Bush's past in no way affects his ability to serve as president, I
feel his right to privacy in this area is different from that of other
presidential aspirants.
As governor of Texas he has advocated, and signed into law,
legislation that has resulted in the jailing of many people for simple
possession of small amounts of illegal drugs.
The successful promotion of this law, by itself, belies his claim to
being a "compassionate conservative." But if it is a law that could
have resulted in his being jailed, then he is guilty of the worst kind
of hypocrisy.
Unlike his competitors, Bush owes the voters an unequivocal answer to
this question.
