NO DRUGS, ALCOHOL FOUND
FORT WORTH -- Larry Gene Ashbrook, the gunman who killed seven people and
himself at a Baptist church last week, had no alcohol or drugs in his
bloodstream when he went on the rampage, officials said Wednesday.
Dr. Angela Springfield, chief toxicologist with the Tarrant County Medical
Examiner's Office, said tests ruled out the presence of illegal drugs such
as cocaine and heroin as well as prescription drugs.
Police initially said Ashbrook might have taken anti-depressant drugs but
later said they were mistaken.
Ashbrook burst into a teen prayer rally at Wedgwood Baptist Church on Sept.
15 and opened fire. Seven people were killed and seven others wounded in the
attack, which ended with Ashbrook's suicide.
