COPS IN ECSTASY OVER BUST AT AIRPORT
Pills, Tourist Seized
Marco Schuijffel's first night in Canada was likely a lot colder than he
expected.
The 22-year-old man appeared in a Brampton court yesterday morning, after
arriving on a flight from Paris the night before. He was arrested for
allegedly trying to carry 6,000 Ecstasy pills into the country. They have a
street value of more than $125,000.
Sources said a stash of the popular rave drug, also known as MDMA, was
found taped to a man's body after a plane landed at Pearson.
"It was a routine secondary search," said one officer. "He was very ...
upset."
DAZED, CONFUSED
Schuijffel, who lives in Holland, seemed dazed and confused when he
appeared in court yesterday. When was asked if he had anyone to post bail,
he looked about the court before shaking his head.
He added he understood only a little English. The matter was put over
until tomorrow.
The arrest comes after several high-profile busts of Ecstasy, which is
being peddled as a soft, feel-good drug. The targeted users are mostly
young dance fans.
Recently a flight attendant and two other men were charged after a seizure
of thousands of the tablets
Also last month, Mounties seized hundreds of tablets of Ecstasy and GHB --
also known as the "date rape" drug -- in a Toronto raid.
Police also nabbed 13 people and a large amount of designer drugs,
including Ecstasy.
The drug, say police, is easily cooked up if you have the right training.
