WOMEN CAUGHT WITH POUNDS 4M DRUG HAUL

TWO Brazilian women were detained by gardai last night after customs
officers at Dublin Airport seized 15 kilos of cocaine, with a street value
of pounds 4m.

The two women in their thirties had travelled here from Lima, Peru via
Amsterdam. The drugs were concealed in picture frames.

The suspects were stopped as a result of "profiling" by customs officers, a
strategic method of checking passengers based on where they travel from,
reasons for coming to the country and other criteria.

The two women were taken to Santry station and were detained under section
two of the Drugs Trafficking Act, under which they can be held for seven days.
