POUNDS 300,000 OF DRUGS SEIZED IN LARNE RAID

A MAN was being questioned by detectives today after police seized
drugs worth pounds 300,000 at Larne harbour.

The cannabis was found during a planned search of a lorry at the
harbour, shortly after 10.30pm yesterday.

It is the latest in a series of major drugs seizures in Northern
Ireland.

Earlier this month police seized nearly pounds 1m worth of cocaine and
other drugs in Belfast and Newtownards.

And in August police in Co Tyrone seized Ecstasy and cannabis with an
estimated street value of about pounds 1m.

Seizures so far this year are already up on last year.

According to the latest police figures for last year drugs worth just
over pounds 2m were seized.

The total number of seizures for the year was 1,588. That included
almost 5,000gms of cocaine, 10 times the previous years figure.

And the amount of Ecstasy seized last year was double the earlier
figures.
