CLOVIS, N.M. CITIZENRY RESPONDS TO JOHNSON

Hopefully, New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson can hear the noise emanating from
Clovis, N.M. Clovis city officials have heard enough of Johnson's recent
support of drug legalization, and they want him to know his views are not
representative of the entire state, much less the citizenry of Clovis.

At Thursday's city commission meeting, commissioners adopted a formal
resolution opposing Johnson's stance on drug legalization. Numerous city
officials and city leaders have voiced their opinions on Johnson's
controversial comments.

And they do not agree with the governor. Commissioners deserve recognition
for deeming it important enough to take a stand against the illogical views
of their governor.

The governor should give lengthy consideration to the opinions of his
constituents, many of whom are familiar with and deal with the damaging
effects of illegal drugs on a daily basis in their communities.

And they know full well the irresponsibility of Johnson's comments, from
the negative impact on youth to the negative national publicity New Mexico
has received.

The question to be asked now is, are you listening, governor?
