VALIUM SMUGGLING ALLEGED
LAREDO -- An Oklahoma City man has been arraigned on charges he tried to
smuggle more than 47,000 Valium pills into the United States.
A federal magistrate on Monday ordered Gordon Lee Dunn, 26, held in the
Webb County Law Enforcement Center in lieu of $30,000 bond. A preliminary
examination was set for Nov. 4.
Dunn was arrested Saturday on drug smuggling charges after customs
inspectors at the port of entry in Laredo found the pills in the spare tire
area of a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. A passenger in the car was interviewed and
released.
A dog alerted inspectors to the area where the pills were found.
"Seizures of undeclared controlled medication at this port are common, but
this one stands out due to the sheer number of pills," port director Gene
Garza said.
