MAN KILLED IN SHOOTOUT WITH DEA IS IDENTIFIED
The 36-year-old south side man killed in an exchange of gunfire with a Drug
Enforcement Administration agent was identified Thursday as Rentos S.
"Sammy" Rodriguez.
A DEA agent shot Rodriguez in the chest around 2 p.m. Wednesday inside his
home in the 1600 block of S. 7th St. after the agent attempted to search
his home on a federal warrant for heroin, which agents said they found
inside the home after the shooting.
Apparently, Rodriguez fired a weapon at the agent, but authorities said
they aren't sure yet who fired first. The shooting remains under investigation.
Agents later found a "distributional level" of heroin in Rodriguez's
residence, said Raymond D. Melick, acting resident agent in charge of the
Milwaukee DEA office.
