CIVIL FORFEITURE AN EVIL TOOL OF GOVERNMENT
CI
Dear Editor:
I read the frightening news story in your Sunday edition concerning
Dr. Metzger, the Golden physician who has had his Lexus stolen by the
DEA. This story stands as clear evidence that our so-called War On
Drugs has indeed become a war on the protections guaranteed by our
Constitution and Bill of Rights.
To quote your article, "DEA spokesman Dennis Follett said the absence
of criminal charges against Metzger is irrelevant. Forfeiture rules
require only that the DEA establish 'probable cause' that the Lexus
was used to obtain drugs illegally." How nice.
I, and an increasing number of my fellow citizens, wish to see an
immediate end to this most destructive of wars. Civil forfeiture is
but one of the many evil tools used by our government in perpetuating
this fight. For those who wish to learn more about the true effects of
the War On Drugs, I recommend visiting http://mall.turnpike.net/~jnr/think.htm
or http://www.mapinc.org on the internet. Together, we can make a
difference!
