LEGALIZING DRUGS IS RIGHT STEP

Dear Editor:

It is certainly refreshing to read that Connie Ferris Bailey of the Madison
Police and Safety Review Board is advocating that the city look seriously
at legalizing drugs.

It is clear that the current prohibition is not working.

Not only is it costly to maintain the "war on drugs," it is also extremely
destructive to our society. Drugs and drug abuse should be a public health
issue, not one of law enforcement.

Kudos to Bailey for having the guts to speak out on this issue. I hope our
elected officials will follow her lead.
