ANTI-DRUG GRANTS FUNDED

Houston's housing authority and a private, low-income apartment complex
have received federal grants to fight drug trafficking.

The Housing Authority of the city of Houston got a $680,276 grant --
slightly less than last year's -- to pay for off-duty police officers, drug
prevention and education programs and related services in the city's public
housing developments.

A $238,000 grant went to the Cleme Manor Charitable Trust for the Cleme
Manor Apartments in the Fifth Ward. The funds will support a multiagency
effort to fight drug trafficking and other crimes in the neighborhood
surrounding the rent-subsidized apartments.
