COURTENAY GOING TO POT

Sir,

So Bob Melnuk favors legalizing drugs. This certainly helps to put a lot of
his campaign into perspective. Now we know what he meant during the
televised debate when he said that our children could work in the
agricultural field.

All that greenery destines to become the Anfield Centre could be given over
to the currently illegal cash crop. And we thought he was against the
development because it would have a food court to compete with his cafe.
His opposition to the airpark and marina now also makes sense, as all those
poppies are currently going to waste; the entire Courtenay waterfront can
be devoted to colorful opium poppies, which our children can harvest and
process. Oh, what a job creation opportunity. What a tourist attraction.

While my impression of his idea to freeze Courtenay's boundaries and stop
further development struck me as stemming from a medieval mind, I now see
it as a containment plan, like the red-light districts of Hamburg and
Amsterdam; what a brilliant way to make it easier for the police and
ambulances to make the rounds collecting corpses. Alas, poor Bob Melnuk
really missed the chance for a campaign slogan - vote for Melnuk and watch
Courtenay go to pot.
