OPPOSES MANDATORY DRUG TESTING
I couldn't agree more with Bud Hendershot's criticisms of mandated drug
testing for high school students. When I was in high school, the best thing
we had going for us was the marching band. Ray Gove (our director) taught
us so much discipline and teamwork, it amazes me to this this day.
He took 100 or so rural farm kids and townie friends all over the country
to perform in some very big parades every single year. My senior year, we
won the Grand Championship at the Hula Bowl in Hawaii. I have never in my
life seen a group of kids more naturally high. The thought that some
students would exclude themselves from such activities for fear of being
forced to pee in a cup revolts me.
