CORRECTIONS OFFICER FACES DRUG CHARGES
Smuggling Alleged: Veteran Jail Worker Charged With Smuggling Heroin At Bare
Hill
MALONE - A veteran state correction officer was jailed Friday after
being accused of smuggling heroin into Bare Hill Correctional Facility.
Michael D. Bradish, 43, of Plattsburgh, was arrested by state police
at 10:30 p.m. Thursday while enroute to work at the correctional
facility. He resigned from his position of 16 years after being
accused of using the U. S. mail to obtain about 5 grams of heroin
which was smuggled into to the facility in 34 glassine envelopes, they
said.
Mr. Bradish allegedly received $100 in cash and about $200 in clothing
and merchandise and may have received other payments as well,
investigators said. Glassine envelopes of heroin sell for $10 on the
street but for as much as $50 each inside a correctional facility,
they said.
The alleged smuggling had been going on since at least June,
investigators said. In addiction to state police, the Inspector
General's office of the state Department of Corrections, U. S. Postal
Inspectors and members of both the Franklin and St. Lawrence County
Drug Task Forces were involved in the investigation.
Mr. Bradish was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a
controlled substance, attempted first-degree promoting prison
contraband, second-degree receiving reward for official misconduct and
forth-degree criminal conspiracy, all felonies. He was arraigned in
Moira Town Court and was ordered held in Franklin County jail in lieu
of $100,000 bail pending further court action. Additional arrests are
expected, troopers said.
