U.S. FUGITIVE GETS MORE TIME FOR DEAL
Vancouver -- A U.S. fugitive living in Vancouver has been given two more
months to strike a deal with prison authorities in New York and with
Canadian immigration officials.
Monroe County Judge John Connell had ordered Allan Robinson to appear in a
New York court today to complete his four-year sentence for selling $20
(U.S.) of drugs. Mr. Robinson, who walked away from a New York
minimum-security work camp in 1971, lived in Vancouver for more than 20
years before he was arrested in November, 1998.
Judge Connell has agreed to an extension to allow Mr. Robinson to continue
discussions with prison and immigration officials about serving his prison
term in Canada, Mr. Robinson's Vancouver lawyer, Michael Bolton, said
yesterday. Mr. Robinson has until Feb. 17.
