DRUG LORD'S MONEY MAY BUILD PRISON
BOGOTA, COLOMBIA -- A dreaded drug lord gunned down by police in 1989
soon may help build a prison in Colombia, turning a dead killer into
an unwitting national benefactor.
President Andres Pastrana said Wednesday that about $13 million
confiscated from Jose Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha would go for a new
maximum-security prison.
Rodriguez Gacha was the righthand man of late Medellin cartel kingpin
Pablo Escobar.
The United States recently turned over $5.8 million of Rodriguez
Gacha's ill-gotten gains.
