Letters to the Editor

WHAT PURPOSE WAS SERVED WITH THE FISHER ARTICLE?

In regard to your article, "Fighting Back" dated Dec. 20, 1999, I take
umbrage at your publishing that Mr. Fisher is now a member of Phi Theta
Kappa. I am also a member of the same honor society.

What other purpose than to dishonor an esteemed hard working group of
people did your article serve? I graduated P.T.K. from the College of the
Siskiyous with a degree in mathematics.

I know how hard it was raising children, holding a job and attacking my
school duties with more than tenacity. Looking back I feel that compared to
those that I considered my peers, I feel lucky to have made the same grade
as those that I would consider true honor students.

What has happened in our society that hard work and true integrity can be
so easily disvalued? How can you place "honor" and "in trouble with the
law" in the same article?

There are numerous difficult educational programs at COS with an equal
amount of hard working students. With no disrespect to my alma mater, the
Drug and Alcohol programs are for the most part filled with people with two
majors: whether past or present - drugs and alcohol.

So again, what purpose did your article serve? If you would be interested
in printing stories about some of Siskiyou County's true and honorable
students, feel free to contact me for a list.

I can fill more space than you can print with their names alone.

Sincerely,

Peter F. Infelise
