HALL OF FAMER GETS BREAK

TEANECK, N.J. -- A minor drug charge against football Hall of Famer
Lawrence Taylor will be dropped if he stays out of trouble for six months.

Municipal Judge James Young Jr. agreed Wednesday to Taylor's request for a
conditional discharge.

Teaneck police found crack cocaine and a pipe in a hotel room rented under
Taylor's name in 1998. The former New York Giants star was not in the room.

Prosecutors declined to pursue a drug possession charge and instead charged
Taylor with disorderly conduct.

On Nov. 30, he pleaded no contest to purchasing crack from an undercover
police officer in Florida. In that case, the judge has said she most likely
will give Taylor 18 months of probation.
