MARIJUANA MARTYR

Thank you for "Drug Queenpin or Innocent Victim?" [December]. I'm horrified
that our government would spend so much time and money to ruthlessly pursue
and harass Renee Boje for merely helping with the illustrations for a book
called How to Grow Medical Marijuana. She's obviously guilty of nothing
more than being good-hearted and artistically talented.

I'm equally angry at drug czar Barry R. McCaffrey, who expressed contempt
for the will of the voters in states that have legalized marijuana for
medical use - including Boje's home state of California. Does he, or
anyone, really believe that extraditing her from Canada and imprisoning her
for 10 years will make America safer, keep drugs away from children or help
to destroy the black market for illegal drugs?
