MORAN WANTS FEDERAL MONEY TO FIGHT METH
TOPEKA -- Congress should give more money to help Kansas fight the
production and distribution of methamphetamines, U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran
says. Moran, R-Kan., said at a Statehouse news conference Friday that
he would work to make sure Kansas gets additional federal money to
combat the "tremendous problem" of the drug.
He noted that law enforcement officials seized 511 methamphetamine
laboratories last year in Kansas, which Moran called a "a hot spot for
the manufacture of this drug."
Moran also said he spent two days this week in Mexico meeting with
Mexican and U.S. drug agents. He said large amounts of ephedrine -- a
key ingredient of methamphetamine -- are made in Mexico, which is also
a hub of the drug's distribution.
