GUARD ORDERED AWAY FROM BIKE GANGS

A KRCC guard charged with drug trafficking will not be allowed to have
contact with bike gangs, a provincial court judge ordered Friday.

Jordan Douglas Woods, 44, was arrested Jan. 10 after being stopped by police
in the 2300 block of Tranquille Road. A quantity of drugs was seized from a
vehicle.

Officers also searched a home in Red Lake and discovered an indoor marijuana
growing operation.

Woods is facing charges of possession of cocaine, methamphetamine and
marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, production of marijuana and unsafe
storage of a firearm.

The Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre guard was detained in custody
after his arrest, pending an application for bail made Wednesday. The
federal Crown opposed Woods release from jail. Evidence from the bail
hearing cannot be published because of a court-ordered ban on publication.

Judge Terry Shupe decided Woods can be released from jail, with numerous
conditions.

One of the conditions requires Woods not to have contact with the Hub City
Men's Club, the Vipers or the Hells Angels motorcycle gang.

The Hub City Men's Club became the Vipers more than a year ago. The club
started up in Kamloops in 1996. City RCMP say the club may become a Hells
Angels chapter in the future.

The Vipers own a house in Brocklehurst, which they use as a clubhouse.
Members maintain they are motorcycle enthusiasts and are not tied to
illegal activities.

Shupe also ordered Woods not to have contact with anyone at KRCC, nor visit
any correctional facility in B.C. As well, he must abide by a curfew. Woods
is expected in court next Feb. 4.

Meanwhile, KRCC's director Peter Tilt said an internal investigation
continues.

He said he is aware of allegations that drugs were being sold to inmates at
KRCC, but has not yet seen evidence to support the claim.

"I'm aware there are statements supposedly made by an informant," Tilt said.
"There is an allegation, but certainly there is no evidence that indicates
that. But I can't say one way or another what we will or will not discover."

Tilt said investigators will consider "any and all aspects" related to the
nature of the charges against Woods.

"If we don't achieve a resolution, we won't close the book and forget about
it. We're not taking it lightly," Tilt said.

Woods has been suspended without pay.
