HEMP

Sir-Greens co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons says that "approving the local
production of hemp would give cannabis growers an economic alternative to
breaking the law".

Why would growers want to turn to hemp when they cannot smoke it and it does
not have the value of cannabis?

Is Ms Fitzsimmons trying to tell us that hemp is as profitable as cannabis,
which seems to have a street value of around $5000 a kilo?

I have always been under the impression that people grow cannabis for two
reasons: to smoke it, or to derive a large profit. The profit, in a lot of
cases, outweighs the risk, and it is tax-free.

To suggest hemp as an economic alternative for cannabis growers indicates to
me naivety and a lack of thought that is frightening when one thinks this
lady is helping to run the country.
