DON'T TAKE LOCAL POLICE OUT OF DRUG TASK FORCE
Mayor Floyd Adams Jr.'s decision to transfer drug task force members to the
city homicide division is a very poor and shortsighted one. It doesn't take
a degree in rocket science to figure out that 95 percent of Savannah's
homicides are drug turf-war related.
The mayor of this lovely and historical city should wake up and eradicate
the evil virus (drugs) before it destroys Savannah's image and popularity
and ultimately its financial prosperity through tourism.
Mayor Adams' decision seems to be nothing more than a political gesture to
continue his popularity, rather than a sound decision to eradicate crime. I
am a recent transplant from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and know firsthand how
ineffective illegal drug control can affect tourism.
