LETTER WARNING TO DRUG DEALERS

SUSPECTED drug dealers have been threatened by an organisation concerned
about the increase in drug abuse in Donegal.

In an unsigned letter to a local radio station, an organisation calling
itself Donegal Against Drugs Committee said it was committed to 'ridding
this area of the drugs scourge and is well supplied with all the ancillary
support required for such a task.'

It claims to have identified a number of people involved in drug dealing in
Donegal Town and the Finn Valley area and has warned that if they don't stop
immediately 'action will be taken to neutralise their effectiveness.'

The statement cames as plans are being made for the creation of a special
cross-border drugs unit in Donegal.

The Cross Border Anti-Drugs Initiative has distanced itself from the
vigilante statement.

Spokesman P J Blake said his group would in no way support anonymous
threats.

A Garda spokesman expressed concern about the letter, which is now being
investigated.
