FIGHTING DRUG CHARGES
D'Arcy Wretzky, the ex-Smashing Pumpkins bassist who left the band in
September, will spend Valentine's Day in court fighting drug
possession charges.
The rocker was busted in the early hours of Jan. 25 in her hometown,
Chicago, after she allegedly purchased three bags of crack cocaine.
Wretzky, who left the band because of her growing dissatisfaction with
frontman Billy Corgan and her desire to begin an acting career, has
since been replaced by former Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur. The
Pumpkins clan is certainly no stranger to drug-related problems.
Founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlain was fired in 1996 following the
death of touring keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin from a heroin overdose.
Chamberlain was with Melvoin when the incident occurred and was
arrested the following day. He successfully underwent drug rehab and
rejoined the band in early 1999.
