HUGE LOAD OF POT SEIZED NEAR CANANEA

CANANEA, Sonora - Mexican federal police agents seized up to 2 tons of
marijuana Sunday on a highway south of Cananea.

Four men from Mexico whose names were not available yesterday were
arrested and are being held by federal authorities in Agua Prieta,
Sonora.

A spokesman for the Mexican Federal Fiscal Police said two 1-ton
trucks were stopped by agents who noticed the vehicles appeared to be
overloaded as they headed north toward Cananea near the town of
Bacuachi, Sonora.

The marijuana has not been fully inventoried, the spokesman said. The
vehicles are being examined in an Agua Prieta impound yard.

The men did not resist arrest, the spokesman said.

Authorities did not estimate the street value of the marijuana, but
the U.S. Border Patrol typically estimates the value at $1,000 per
pound.

Cananea is about 50 miles southwest of Douglas and 110 miles southeast
of Tucson.
