POT MOMMA

How do you arrest a young mother with a Masters degree for selling pot
to sick people with doctor's notes?

You don't. You arrest her friends instead.

A dozen police officers waited outside until the Compassion Club's
female co-founders left the Club's Plateau office, then moved in and
arrested two male volunteers last week and confiscated all the club's
documents and marijuana.

One of those volunteers was Bloc Pot leader Marc (Boris) St-Maurice,
whose pro-ganja party just announced plans to go federal. "We wonder
if there's some political motivation there," he says.

"We needed a break and they were just filling in," adds co-founder
Caroline Doyer. "We're a social movement. If we wanted to be political
we would have gone to the police station across the street with 20
sick people and joints. We're mad they went over the line."

Why does Doyer think police didn't arrest her or co-founder Louise
Bergeron, who was at home with her Masters degree and her two month
old at the time? "We look good on camera. We have good hearts. It
wouldn't have been good for the cops' image."

Doyer says the club will reopen soon. The case goes to court March 13.
