ELDERLY PICKET INJECTING ROOM

HUNDREDS of protestors are expected to gather at 66 Darlinghurst St today
to protest plans to open injecting rooms at the Kings Cross site.

Organisers said residents and business people will picket the building,
directly across from the train station at 3.30pm today.

Senior citizens, angry that the injecting rooms will be directly across
from a bus stop they lobbied for, will also join the protest.

Chris Williams from the Kings Cross Chamber of Commerce and Tourism said
last night: "The location for the injecting rooms needs to have community
support before a licence can be granted by the Government."

"We are showing this support does not exist."

Mr Williams said that other protest rallies will be organised and regular
community meetings were also being held.

The Uniting Church announced last week it would establish and staff the
injecting rooms on the site of the former pinball parlour.
